EDGE is staring a new drone research program with RHCRU in Bela Bela, South Africa to evaluate the use of drones for wildlife management, conservation, and security.
Our goal is to train and provide drones like the DJI Mavic as vital tools for watching borders that are difficult to patrol, covering wide areas for surveillance, tracking wildlife movement for study, gauging populations and studying behavior.
We worked with partners over the last week with sample equipment, testing how animals react to the sound and presence of the drone, and how they perform in different environments. We trained potential drone users as well. We’re excited about this project and hope you can support our efforts!
